Girls Night: Spiced Amaretto Apple Cider Kiss from Jessica of How Sweet It Is
While most people find summer to be the quintessential cocktail season, I get all hot and bothered over fall. Sure, I’d never kick a margarita out of bed, but it’s the spiced, boozy beverages that I wait all year for. The classics obviously have a place in my heart and I can’t let the cooler season go by without some mulled wine or hot buttered rum. However, as the queen of trashing up some of my favorite kiddo treats, apple cider has been my autumn cocktail choice for the past few years.
As a child, I was an absolute apple cider fiend – wanting it ice cold most days after I came home from school and once the weather turned a bit, craving it hot near a bonfire. One sip of cider completely transports me into nostalgia town and gives me all sorts of cozy memories, scented with pumpkins and cinnamon and caramel.
In previous years I’ve survived the season on apple cider sangria and apple cider margaritas but decided to make a full-blown, fall-screaming drink with some of my favorite flavors. This drink consists of three simple ingredients: apple cider, amaretto, and spiced rum, but can also serve as the base for a more bubbly cocktail with a splash of ginger ale or sparkling wine. It’s basically apple cider with a hint (or, uh, a kiss) of booze, and I’m all over it. And I love the honey and cinnamon sugared rim because I’m a stereotypical girl who goes crazy over stuff like that.
It’s my perfect chilled drink for the season.
Spiced Amaretto Apple Cider Kiss
Tools: cocktail shaker
2.5 fl. oz. (74ml) apple cider
1 fl. oz. (30ml) amaretto liqueur
1 fl. oz. (30ml) spiced rum
1 tsp. honey
1 tbsp. granulated sugar
¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
1 thin apple slice for garnish
cinnamon sticks for serving
1) Combine the apple cider, amaretto, and spiced rum in a cocktail shaker and shake for 15 seconds. Rub the rim of the glass with honey and add the sugar and cinnamon to a small plate, mixing it to combine. Dip the rim of the glass into the cinnamon sugar and press gently so it adheres.
2) Fill the glass with ice and pour the drink over top. Garnish with an apple slice and cinnamon.
